One of my favorite K-Dramas of all time is a drama called Phoenix or Bul Sae (불새) in Korean. It's a fairly old drama (came out in 2004) starring Lee Seo Jin, Lee Eun Joo, Jung Hye Young, and Eric. It doesn't seem to be remembered very well considering the fan base that still exists today, but the drama is really great and deserves more recognition then it seems to have. It has a great storyline, acting, OST, and everything that you would expect in a good kdrama. It's 26 episodes but it does not feel draggy and there is lots of substance in every episode. The main theme behind the drama is that sometimes we meet the right people at the wrong time in our lives and love is timing.
The story starts off with Ji-Eun (Lee Eun Joo) who is a privledged spoiled brat who has always lived as a rich girl. She has one flaw though, no one has ever loved her and despite her best efforts she can't find anyone who will love her. One day Ji-Eun is driving home without her heels on and her foot on the pedal and slips her foot, arriving into an accident and crashing straight into a gas station, almost hitting a poor student worker, Sae-Hoon (Lee Seo Jin). Ji-Eun, more concerned about her car then Sae-Hoon who she almost hit, gets into an altercation with Sae-Hoon and she steals his bag with his thesis paper for a scholarship to make him pay for the way he treats her.
Sae-Hoon tries to get it back, but Ji-Eun refuses to give it up until she finds herself needing a date because girls bully her for not being able to charm any men. Sae-Hoon agrees to go on a date with Ji-Eun and she ends up reaching out to him about her loneliness. Sae-Hoon mostly dismisses her attempts to catch his heart, until she eventually catches it one night and he falls in love with her.
They begin dating and eventually have a healthy relationship, despite Sae-Hoon's lower status of finances, and all seems well until problems arise due to their differences in financial status and Ji-Eun plots to keep Sae-Hoon by becoming pregnant with his child. They are married and move in together against her parents wishes.
The night Ji-Eun seduces Sae-Hoon.

Her plan only works temporarily and as the plans fall through, they end up breaking up and Ji-Eun's family falls apart as she falls from riches to poverty. They found themselves unable to learn to trust their love for each other. Ten years pass and Sae-Hoon is now a successful businessman, while Ji-Eun has become a maid after a family tragedy. They meet again coincidentally and Sae-Hoon hires Ji-Eun. It's unclear whether he hires her because he loves her or because he now hates her. To make matters worse, Ji-Eun's former best friend Mi-Rain (Jung Hye Young) is now dating Sae-Hoon (she was never aware of Ji-Eun's past with him, some best friend), and things just look horrible for Ji-Eun.
Sae-Hoon gloating over Ji-Eun.
Love or hate?
They always look each other deeply. They don't even seem to understand why.
Will she fall for Sae-Hoon again? Will Sae-Hoon fall in love with her? What of Mi-Ran? This drama is one you don't want to miss.
The main actress comitted suicide sometime after this drama and it was really sad because she was a great actress, especially in this drama.
